"Celebrating" being single? Really? Yes, times are changing. Demographics are shifting and the nature of modern relationships is being re-defined. The institution of marriage remains alive and well, but men and women no longer feel pressured by social norms to get married at a young age - some maybe at all. In fact, more Americans are spending a greater percentage of their lives unmarried than married.
Here are some eye opening numbers from the US Census Bureau (2011):
- 102 million adults (over 18) in the US are not married. That's 44% of all adults in the U.S.
- 33 million people in the U.S. who lived alone. They comprised 28% of all households, up from just 17% in 1970.
- More than one third of voters in the 2008 presidential election were unmarried. One of the largest groups of non-voters is unmarried women.
"Single" is an independent documentary film that explores the growth of the unmarried population and the new challenges in finding and maintaining a lasting relationship in today's crazy world. The game has dramatically changed. Should you have a plan?
